One of the most important things about keeping chickens is having a first aid kit ready for the times of an emergency, Last thing you need to worry about is where to get your medicine, and if the local feed store carries what you need to treat your chickens. It can get very expensive to do it all at once so over time add to your kit. You will want basic things like gloves, lube in case of prolapse , preparation H to shrink swelling tissues, cotton squares, gauze, antiseptic spray WITHOUT numbing agent because any thing with caine in it can harm chickens so i recommend vetericyn spray. also electrolytes and vitamins are important to have on hand. What many people do not mention for the first aid kit is what i think is the MOST important thing to have on hand in a pinch and it very well could save a life if given at first signs of illness, ANTIBIOTICS. Different antibiotics are needed for different illnesses so its best to have on hand some basic antibiotics.lets start with injectable antibiotics.Sometimes your chicken will be too sick to drink the amount of water he needs to get a good dose of water solvable medicine such as the powder antibiotic. so dose is not going to be what they need for treatment. Two very good injectable antibiotics to have on hand are tylan 50 for respiratory illness and liquamycine LA 200 for a general antibiotic for swelling and injures. In powder form I suggest ,oxytet which is a soluble oxytetracycline, Gallimycin which is erythromycine, sulfadimethoxine a sulpha antibiotic, and neo-sol a antibacterial sulfate. ITS also good to have on hand powder tumeric which is a immune system enhancement ,Amino Acid, replamin liquid for quick relief of mineral deficient issues,Amprol or corid for coccidosis, wazine for wormer and levamisole for gape worms. also its a good idea to have on hand a probotic, colloidal silver for eye issues, crop bound capsules, vet rx, and vitamins, nutri drench, and anti fungal. This is what I have in my Emergency kit. I tried to cover all bases because you never know what illness is going to come up. Also id like to add sutures, and scalpel.its also good to have on hand Apple cider vinegar it has many great properties that gives vitamins and minerals. Get the kind with the Mother inside and it must be unpasteurized. I give this one week a month for extra benefits.I made this post to help people with their first aid kit because I've noticed most kits do not address antibiotics which I feel are very important in a emergency . I hope this helps out. Best wishes
